Scope: To install and test the Gibson marine muffler on a high performance boat that does not meet the new noise standard. Gibson Bullet - Part #110001

Test Boat:
Ron Porco owns this 1999 Carrera 257 Effect-X 26’ cat. Engine is a 510 ci big block Chevy. Highly modified with a supercharger. Estimated horse power is 825 HP. Top speed has been measured at 109 mph on GPS.

Had 7” long stainless thru tips. Lightning tubular headers. No flappers. (they keep blowing out)

Test Location: T & R Performance’s Lake Havasu facility. On water testing, Lake Havasu.

Test Procedure: Used Calif J2005

Conclusion: The mufflers made a huge difference in the sound of this boat. It took the “bark” out of the exhaust but still has a good high performance sound to it. Top end performance may be affected but we didn’t test for it. High speed sound level was greatly reduced.

We asked owner if it mattered to him that speed may be reduced and his response was “ this boat has gone 109 mph, if it only goes 106 do I care – NO The mufflers stay”.

Comments: Testing of the new spec is very difficult. Trying to find the ideal conditions proved to be a challenge, a lot of uncontrollable variables. I really don’t know how law enforcement is going to be able to test on water and be fair.
